Roswell Woman’s Club held their annual Gift Disbursement Ceremony at St. David’s Episcopal Church last Tuesday, May 8th. A record crowd of approximately 225 guests occupied the room filled with local dignitaries, high school students, educators and leaders of local nonprofit organizations.
“We are thrilled to give more than $58,000 back to our beloved north Fulton community in the form of educational grants, student scholarships and nonprofit grants,” said Roswell Woman’s Club president Cheryl O’Donnell. “This is the night we’ve worked for all year! Our awards supplied 21 scholarships to high school seniors from 8 local high schools; 8 educational grants, representing 7 local area schools; and 20 grants to local area nonprofit organizations. We consider this event the “Academy Awards”, the “Grand Finale”, the “Icing on the Cake”, said O’Donnell.
This year’s main fundraiser was the November 4, 2017 Holiday Home Tour, featuring five homes in the heart of historic Roswell, showcased and adorned with holiday décor by local floral and home interior designers. Ticket holders were transported to and between each home by bus, and treated to the very best in holiday décor and hospitality at each location. A smaller, subsequent fundraiser was an April 11, 2018 ticketed event to “Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story” at the Georgia Ensemble Theatre.
Applicants from each category apply for awards online via the Club’s website. RWC’s committee structure allows for a comprehensive review of each application, with final decisions often taking several weeks. Upon arrival at the ceremony, recipients are photographed, interviewed and celebrated.
